Wallingford, University District Street Art & Picardo P-Patch, Seattle23

June 23, 2010

The building pictured here covered in intricate graffiti is the result of the City of Seattle legalizing graffiti on this site. It’s an ever-changing work of art. The carrots grew in the city’s first community garden, Picardo Farm. Once a truck farm cultivated by Italisn immigrants, now it’s the site of dozens of 10’x20′ organic garden plots where residents (my former household included) can grow our own delicious produce right in the city. There are something like 90 community gardens (called P-Patches) in Seattle.
